The Power of Observation
The breeze rustles the daffodil blooms
And I see a likeness to my mind,
Constant breeze of sensation and emotion
Disturbing the calm.
I am learning to love this breeze, for all its disruptions;
It invites observation:
Observing the effect of the breeze,
Naming it;
I am irritated,
Or I am on guard,
I am un-calmed in some way that begs enquiry.
What disturbs me?
The irritation I feel at so-and-so,
Yes, maybe I am not alone in feeling annoyed,
Or frustrated with them,
But how is it they have the power to disturb my calm?
Are they more powerful than I?
If so, how do I perceive that as true?
Perhaps I can learn from them.
Perhaps I come to understand they are not more powerful.
Why should I allow the ripple of their words
or looks
or actions
to upset my vast ocean?
I am constant and ever-lasting,
I can protect the most precious gems of my experience:
My peace, the calm in my heart;
My joy, my bliss.
My peace is my power.
And in the power of observation
Lies the preservation of my peace.
